Summer means pool parties, bright colors, lazy holidays and…heat! We might like summer because of the holidays, but the heat, pollution and the abundance of UV rays do more harm than good, especially to our skin. Pimples, oily skin, blackheads and dark spots are all a result of skin damage and exposure to dirt and toxins. Working out is a good way to flush out all these harmful compounds from your body, but another pain-free solution to this is detox water and drinks. Summer may bring scorching sun and sunburns, but it also gives us plenty of fresh and delicious fruits and vegetables to mend the damage. The enzymes and vitamins in fresh fruits can help get rid of skin problems, help keep you refreshed, keep your body and skin hydrated, cleanse your liver and kidneys, alkalize the body, boost immune system and keep you feeling cool.
Since we cannot spend five months shut inside our homes to save our skins and end up missing out on all the fun, detox water has come to our rescue. Plain water can get too boring to drink twenty times a day, so detox water provides the flavor without any extra calories (sodas, Tang and other sugary drinks). Here are 8 easy to make detox water recipes to keep you feeling cool and light this summer (Will also keep that tummy flat)
- Mint and Strawberry Citrus Mix
½ Cup chopped strawberries (freeze some good amount of them before they run out)
1 orange or substitute with 2 lemons and a teaspoon of honey. Slice the citrus fruit into quarter moons.
2-4 sprigs of mint (chopped if you prefer)
Add in a large glass of cold water or room temperature if you prefer. Multiply the amount of fruits if you’re making a pitcher.
- Cucumber and Mint Detox Dunk
1 cucumber, washed and thinly sliced into 12-15 pieces
4-6 sprigs of mint
1 lime squeezed
A pinch of Himalayn Salt
Add the slices into a glass try layering them to the sides and then pour in the lime juice. Add cold water, salt, mint and enjoy a refreshing drink.
- Watermelon and Citrus Blast
1 cup of freshly-cut cubed watermelon
Two limes (one cut into quarter moons and other squeezed for juice)

- Apple Cinnamon Detox Water
1 apple thinly sliced. Try very thin slices and pick Fiji apples,
otherwise the regular ones can do too.
2 sticks of cinnamon. Break them by hand, and don’t use powder.
since it gets clogged in the water.
Add some lime juice if you prefer.
Let the drink chill for a while as the apple infuses in the water and drink when chilled.
The phytonutrients and antioxidants in apples may help reduce the risk of developing cancer, hypertension, diabetes, and heart diseases.
- Mango Ginger Metabolism Booster (yes mangos finally!)
1 cup mango, sliced into cubes
1 ginger root, sliced thinly after peeling the skin
1 lime squeezed (if you prefer)
Not only will this help regulate your hormones and digestion, it also helped balances electrolytes in the blood as well while boosting your metabolism. Win, win, situation.
- Pineapple Lime Detox Water
I/2 cup wedges of pineapple (preferably fresh or canned will do too)
2 limes cut into wedges
2 limes squeezed for juice
3-4 sprigs of mint or parsley
Add the pineapple wedges, some pineapple juice, the cut lime and the lime juice into a big glass or small pitcher. Pour in cold water and some ice cubes. Enjoy this sweet, citrusy drink. Pineapple keeps your skin glowing and the lime will help cut belly fat, too.

1 cucumber sliced thinly
½ ginger root, sliced after peeling skin
2 lemon wedges
10-12 fresh mint leaves
A pinch of Himalayan salt
